Nearing Release
The Board of Trustees met this past weekend (Nov 3, 2007) and discussed the release of 0.9.x series for FreeMED. We are not ready yet. You in the community can speed this process by volunteering to help.
- We need a CSS coder who can help make 0.9.x IE friendly and help with some design.
- We need billing and remittance folks to help us smooth the wrinkles out of the billing side and make it more friendly to them.
- We need some MAC/Apple folks to help us bring this to the MACworld.
- We need 2-3 alpha sites who are willing to work with us to get FreeMED wrinkles out. Currently there is one alpha site.
- We need a UI designer to help with the flow of the program
0.9.x needs some doing yet before it is 'camera ready'. We, the board, hope that we will find physicians who want to make it better. How can you help? If can code (dojo, PHP, LAMP, Java, C (flavors)) you can write for FreeMED. If you want something done, you can sponsor work in a specific area by contacting Dr. Volker Bradley. (volkerbradley@freemedsoftware.org)
If you are in a research institution, FreeMED may be for you! Dr. Frank Valier (Western New England College) may be able to direct you to an IT research project at the Master or Doctoral level. (fvalier@comcast.net).
What IS the FreeMED project? The FreeMED project was started as an idea that physicians needed to have data in their hands to make intelligent decisions about patient care and to change their own medical practices through analysis of that data. For many years we physicians have done things anecdotally. We see that which works for our patients and work with that concept. FreeMED multiplies that power by allowing for data collection and data use by the physician. It is, physician centric, physician directed but IT designed.
But, FreeMED is an idea. Without YOU our community we cannot bring this idea to the world. We, the Board, feel that we have a model which is extensible, useable, doable and afordable now. What we need from YOU is to help us over that hump.
Your ideas your contributions are all welcome. FreeMED as a program and an idea is forever free and open sourced.
Jeremy Allen of Teak Systems has been a contributor. He has been tireless in designing and porting new Icon Sets for 0.9.x. Thanks Jeremy!
Please write to me of your thoughts and concerns at director@freemedsoftware.org.
Thank you.
