Step-by-Step: Evaluation went a little different.
So the evaluation went a little differently then I had planned. Since it was a bit tough getting a handle on all the options of freemed just from poking around the demo site, I decided to jump in and install it on a testing server. I have Ubuntu 6.10, Edgy Eft on a vanilla i386 platform.
All in all install went pretty well. LOOK AT THIS PAGE FIRST!!
I tried both a couple of times, I'm not sure which one worked since I got pretty frustrated and uninstalled everything and started over twice.
Once it was in, I really got a feel for it.
My suggestion is just start filling in the support data, a few patients and have your way with it. Go through clinic scenarios and find out what information you forgot to put in and what isn't really applicable.
It is still taking some getting used to. Mainly just some of the titles and how the program recognizes and classifies certain things. It is mostly what is currently unstandardized nomenclature. But there is a lot that is standard (at least the important stuff) icd-9, cpt, etc. . .
My other suggestion is to get myphpadmin and see where everything (the data) is going. If you don't have a clue about databases look but, don't touch.;) Well you can just be sure you backup everything first.
